Police Called To Waukesha Target Over Thanksgiving Shoppers

WAUKESHA, WI — Shopping over the Thanksgiving weekend was quiet over the holiday weekend, with the exception of an incident at Target on Thanksgiving Day.
Waukesha police told Patch.com that the loss prevention officer at Target called in a disturbance just after 7 p.m. after a customer passed through the checkout counter and had their items checked by store security.
Police said that Target security believed the customer had an item in their cart from the store that had not been paid for. Reports indicated that store security believed a $150 sound bar — a speaker system for a television set — was not paid for. The report stated that the family said the item was, in fact, paid for and had become very upset over the issue.

The disagreement over the sound bar resulted in an altercation between five family members and the loss prevention officer that at one point resulted in one person trying to push the shopping cart into the security person in an attempt to leave.
Police responded and mediated the issue. A check of the customer's receipt confirmed that the sound bar was paid for, and the family left Target without further incident. Reports indicated that the loss prevention officer took another look at store security footage and saw that the sound bar was never touched by the clerk at checkout, yet appeared on the receipt.
