Spectator Dies At 2017 U.S. Open Friday

The USGA has announced Friday that a spectator died while watching the 2017 U.S. Open at Erin Hills

ERIN, WI — The day after an observation blimp crashed at the U.S. Open at Erin Hills, Wis., the USGA has announced Friday that a spectator died while on the course.

According to media reports Friday afternoon, an elderly spectator died while at the event. The cause of death was not publicly available Friday afternoon, though the medical examiner was called out to the course at 2 p.m.

The U.S.G.A. has issued the following statement on the incident Friday afternoon: “The USGA was saddened to learn that a spectator at Erin Hills passed away a short time ago. Out of respect for the family, we are unable to provide additional information at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with those surrounding this individual during this difficult time.”
