Speeder Flees Police, Crashes Into Light Pole: Police

Police say a man caught speeding fled police, only to crash into a light pole, run and later bike away from pursuing officers.

WAUKESHA, WI — Waukesha police responded to the area of Macarthur Road and W. St Paul Ave. just after 2 a.m. on May 5 on a report of a driver who fled a routine traffic stop.

Waukesha police told Patch that an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle at the intersection of W. St. Paul Ave. and S. Moreland Blvd. for speeding.

Police said that the driver of the suspect's vehicle failed to stop and sped away, initiating a traffic stop that lasted four-tenths of a mile.

Police said the driver crashed into a traffic standard and several electrical boxes on the southwest corner of the intersection of W. St. Paul Ave. and Kensington Drive before he fled on foot.

According to reports, police employed a police dog, patrol officers on foot and on the road to try to track the man down. According to Waukesha police, the search led police along Kensington to the Kensington Apartments, however, a witness said the suspect may have fled the apartment complex with the use of a bicycle.

Police said they found a bicycle left behind near a retention pond, however, the driver was not located.

Police in Waukesha are continuing to search for the driver who fled.
