Stolen Car Driver Crashes Into Pole, Rips Plates Off, Flees

WAUKESHA, WI — The driver of a stolen vehicle crashed into a traffic light in Waukesha only to rip off the vehicle's license plates and walk from the scene.

Waukesha police responded to the intersection of Silvernail Road and N. Grandview Blvd. Friday morning just before 2:30 a.m. on a report of a traffic accident.

Police responded and learned that the driver of a vehicle knocked over a traffic light and the man left the scene.

According to an eyewitness, the apparent driver ripped the license plates off the vehicle and walked away from the scene, leaving the car at the crash site.

Eyewitnesses reported that the man appeared to be in his 20s, wearing dark shorts.

Police made contact with the vehicle's owner, who stated that the person involved in the crash took the vehicle without permission.

Police are continuing their investigation into this incident.
