Summit View Elementary Named 2019 Magnet School of Distinction

To receive a national merit award, members of Magnet Schools of America must submit a detailed application that is scored by educators.

WAUKESHA, WI -- Waukesha's Summit View Elementary has been named a National Magnet School of Distinction by Magnet Schools of America, the national association for magnet and theme-based schools.

In a statement to Waukesha Patch, Waukesha School District officials said that Summit View Elementary "exemplifies the integrated arts magnet focus every day through multiple instances. By teaching content area and arts objectives simultaneously, teachers are able to scaffold learning more effectively, challenge learners to become creative problem solvers, and increase student engagement and academic confidence. At Summit View, art experiences are not a supplement to traditional teaching; instead staff are changing the way everyday instruction is approached to make it more accessible and rigorous for all."

Principal Garrett Sheskey shares that “arts integration as an approach to teaching and learning is a continuous journey of development for all- students, teachers, and families. A journey that the school and district stakeholders are committed to continuing.”
