Suspicious Hillcrest Apartment Fire Ruled An Accident

WAUKESHA, WI — Waukesha police said that the cause of a suspicious fire on Sunday was likely an accident.

Waukesha police and fire responded to the Hillcrest Park Apartments at 1805 Shepherd Ct. just after midnight on Sunday on a report of a fire.

According to police reports, the third floor was full of smoke, and the fire alarms were activated. Authorities advised residents to evacuate the building as first-responders were en route.

Police told Waukesha patch that an intoxicated resident possibly put a cigarette out in a garbage can, which accidentally started the fire.

According to police reports, the Waukesha Fire Department extinguished a "small working fire." Police said the fire was suspicious in nature and were called to investigate the fire.

Nobody was injured as a result of the fire, according to reports.
