Sussex To Break Ground On New Playground, Splash Pad
The project includes an indoor/outdoor pavilion, accessible playground, splash pad, half-court basketball courts, and a parking lot.
SUSSEX, WI — The Village of Sussex will host a groundbreaking to kick-off construction of the new splash pad, playground, and park pavilion in Village Park on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. W244 N6125 Weaver Drive.
Members of the public and media are welcome to attend the brief ceremony.

The new amenities will be accessible to the public by Memorial Day, 2020. In preparation for the project, the Village reconstructed a portion of Weaver Drive, improved pedestrian access by adding sidewalks, and completed other site work.

The 5,200 square foot inclusive splash pad features three different areas of play: active, family and toddler. The family area contains a 20 foot tall dumping feature, water arches, team sprays, and spiraling water feature. The active area has water cannons, fountains, additional water arches and team sprays. The toddler area, has water jellies, water journey play, and a rotating spray feature.
A 14,000 square foot inclusive playground will include tall towers, climbing structures, slides, and opportunities for communal play. Additional features include a four-foot grade change that lends itself to hill slides and hill play. Two 12-ft towers with climbing features and twisting, tunnel slides will make a statement as you enter Village Park.
An ground-level spinner, accessible teeter-totter, accessible zip line, swing set, and a playhouse intended for 2-5 year olds.
The athletic-surfaced courts will have a dual purpose. Four pickleball courts, with four half-court basketball courts, will be constructed. Each court will feature permanent pickleball nets and permanent, fixed basketball hoops. The court will be constructed of asphalt with a sport coating.
There will be a 5,000 square foot pavilion with two indoor rentable spaces, an outdoor overhang that will seat 100, kitchenette, and bathrooms. The building will be used in the summer to house Summer Day Camp.
