Thanksgiving 2017: What's Open, Closed in Waukesha
From city hall to local schools, a look at holiday closings, plus what's open on Thanksgiving in Waukesha.

WAUKESHA, WI — It's almost time to sit down with the family and feast on turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie. While some people — including employees at some retail stores — will be working on the holiday, many area businesses and offices will be closed, giving workers a day off.
Here's list of what's open and what's closed in Waukesha.
- Post office: Closed
- State offices: Closed
- City of Waukesha:Thursday garbage/recycling collection routes will be picked up on Friday. Normal Friday routes will be picked up on Saturday.
- Waukesha County offices, including the circuit clerk's office, courts, health department and more will be closed on Thanksgiving and Black Friday.
- Local schools: Closed
- Waukesha Public Library: Closed Thursday
- Banks: Closed
- Gas stations: Open
- Retail stores: Some will be closed, some — including area grocery stores — will be open. Walmart, for instance, will be open, but the deals don't start until 6 p.m. Other retailers have decided to take a stand against opening on Thanksgiving. Call ahead to make sure.
