Waukesha City Hall Plans Survive Council Challenge
Citing rising cost estimates, several Waukesha alderman said they could no longer support construction plans for a new City Hall.

WAUKESHA, WI -- Plans to move forward with with the construction of a new Waukesha City Hall remain in place after a motion to rescind the plans came up short Tuesday night.
During a Sep. 18 Common Council meeting, a motion to rescind an Aug. 7 decision to build a new City Hall on the existing campus failed on a 9-5 vote.

According to a Journal Sentinel report, Alderman Corey Payne said escalating cost estimates had grown to the point where he, along with others, could no longer support it.

The Journal Sentinel reported that $19.9 million earmarked in the capital budget for a new city hall remained in place. On separate 8-6 votes, aldermen voted down a proposal to reduce that figure to $15 million, then another for $18 million.
