Waukesha Company Lending a Hand to Clean up Madison Streets

Merry Men Services donating volunteer time to save tax dollars in cleaning up mess after days of protests at Capitol.

With Democrats and Republicans descending on Madison with protests and rallies, there is bound to be a mess on the Madison streets. The demonstration could potentially leave behind trash, signs, fast food wrappers and coffee cups.

No one really knows how messy the Capitol grounds and surrounding area will be, but one Waukesha company is volunteering its time to assist in the garbage collection.

“Our goal is to not to make a message but to help out the community,” said Adam Butler, co-owner of Merry Men Services LLC.

Merry Men Services – owned by Butler, Josh Duchow and Mike Musser – will be volunteering the cleaning services to pick up the trash left behind by protestors. It doesn’t matter if the signs left behind the protestors are anti-Walker or pro-Walker, they are cleaning it all.

“We are going to be there to help them,” Butler said. “Whatever needs to be cleaned up, we are going to try to clean up.”

The ultimate goal is simple, Butler said, as the volunteers are expected to help defray the cost of clean up.

“If companies start putting their work back into their community, they will be paying less in taxes eventually,” Butler said.

The volunteers are going to start around 12:30 p.m. today and continue throughout the day. If people want to join in the cleaning efforts, Butler can be reached at 262-527-6118.

The company is dedicating as many hours to the efforts as they can without affecting regular business. But they don’t know how long it will take.

“That is not even able to be estimated,” Butler said. “I have seen pictures.  … Our goal is to get out there and give it our all.”
