A Waukesha County man drowned while snorkeling in the Virgin Islands, according to reports, after a current overpowered him.

VIRGIN ISLANDS -- A Waukesha County man drowned while snorkeling in the Virgin Islands. On Wednesday, near the Hotel on the Cay, Daniel Reardon was snorkeling with his family when the current dragged him away.

Reardon "was snorkeling with his family — all of whom were carried into the deep by the strong current — but Mr. Reardon did not make it back to shore," according to a report by the Virgin Islands Consortium. Helpful beachgoers tried to retrieve him using a boat and jet skis, but the effort was to no avail.

Reardon worked as the Vice President and Team Leader at Acosta Sales and Marketing in Waukesha, according to the Journal Sentinel.
