Waukesha Iron And Metal Proposes 6,000 Square Foot Addition
The Plan Commission will review the site plans on Wednesday.
WAUKESHA, WI—The Waukesha Plan Commission will meet Wednesday to consider the final site plan for a 6,000 square foot addition to Waukesha Iron and Metal, 1407 E. Main St.
Waukesha Iron and Metal is a family-owned company that has been providing recycling service to businesses since 1956, according to the company’s website.
The facility currently has a number of similar storage buildings located in the area, with an outdoor scrap yard and metal recycling operation in the rear. The whole facility is screened from Main Street by a white vinyl fence, according to online meeting documents.

The new addition will be used to store large tractor trailer trucks, to keep them out of the sun, rain and snow. Two large overhead doors will be located on the south side of the building, facing into the lot. There will be large faux windows with black glass facing the street, the documents said.
City staff suggested the windows should have real glass, to increase transparency. However, the applicant wants the windows to remain black to look similar to neighboring buildings, the documents said.
