Waukesha Salvation Army Auctioning Off 2 Gold Coins

Two anonymous donors deposited gold coins valued at approximately $1,400 into Salvation Army Red Kettles in late 2017.

WAUKESHA, WI — On Nov. 25, an anonymous donor slipped a one-ounce 1985 Queen Elizabeth Maple Leaf Canadian gold dollar coin into a Salvation Army Red Kettle at the Waukesha Pick 'n Save. A South African Krugerrand gold coin was dropped into a kettle inside JCPenney at Brookfield Square on Friday, December 1.

Now, the Salvation Army is auctioning both coins off. Both coins are valued at approximately $1,400.

“The Waukesha Salvation Army will be taking bids by email through Noon Friday, January 19, with
the reserve price set at the market value of each of the coins. It changes daily but is roughly $1,400,” Major Nelson De La Vergne, Waukesha Salvation Army Corps Officer said.

To be considered valid, each bid must be sent to the following email address: philip_hanson@usc.salvationarmy.org and must include the bidder’s first and last names, phone number, street address, zip code and the bidder's bid amount.

The Waukesha Salvation Army says that bidders will be updated on the top bid, in the event they want to advance their own bid. The final winning bid will be determined by Noon on Wednesday, January 24.

“It’s a fun way to close the holiday season, and to make a final effort to reach our $800,000 goal which
we are close to, but which we’ve not yet achieved, said De La Vergne.
