Waukesha Salvation Army Offers 'Safe Sitter' Babysitter Class

The classes will be conducted at the Waukesha County Salvation Army Corps, located near the hospital at 445 Madison Street, in Waukesha.

WAUKESHA, WI — The Waukesha County Salvation Army is offering an official Safe Sitter course over two days, for young boys and girls age 11-14, on Wed. and Thu., June 13-14, 2018 to teach safe and appropriate babysitting skills.

The course provides hands-on practice in practical lifesaving techniques so that young people have the confidence to act swiftly and decisively in an emergency, explained Cheri Winchowky, director of Youth Ministry.

More than 600,000 young people have graduated from the medically accurate program, which teaches how, why and where injuries happen so they can be prevented.

"The course is extremely useful not only for those training to be babysitters, but also for those who may be home alone or whose duties include watching younger siblings," Winchowky said.

The class will take place from Noon to 4:30 p.m. both days, and results in a certificate upon successful completion. The cost is $25 per student, and scholarships are available for those who can show need.
