WAUKESHA, WI —On March 13, members of the Waukesha School District Board will consider approving a plan to consolidate three local elementary schools in two.
According to a JSOnline report, district officials cited declining enrollments and higher costs as being the main reasons behind a plan to consolidate Hawthorne, Blair and Lowell elementary schools into just Hawthorne and Lowell.

"When you have low populations dispersed among three schools, it’s more difficult to provide all the programs that we want as population is diluted in each of those schools,” Waukesha School Board President Joe Como said in the report.
District enrollment data showed that the combined enrollment of the three schools dropped from 1,051 students in 2008-09 to 773 students this year.
