Waukesha School Walkout: Details Set For March 14
The National School Walkout is still a week away, but Waukesha's effort is already the walk that's been heard around the world.

WAUKESHA, WI — The National School Walkout is still a week away, but Waukesha's effort is already the walk that's been heard around the world.
That's because news of a planned walkout organized by district parent Tahra Loy became controversial when the organization effort came into conflict with district officials over multiple issues, including the use of the district's name in social media promotion, strong disciplinary consequences for students to leave their desks to participate and the ongoing narrative that led to district officials softening their stance on students who wish to participate.
"We acknowledge that individuals have a right to demonstrate to support a cause. Therefore, if parents wish to excuse their children from school to attend such an event or demonstration, that is their right. However, students not excused must stay in school," Waukesha School District Superintendent Todd Gray said in a recent statement.

That news came days after district officials said students are subject to disciplinary measures, will be considered disruptive and acting against school regulations.
The March 14 walkout is planned for 10 a.m. at Cutler Park. This walkout is designated for parents and supporters of the students who are planning to walk out of their respective high schools that day.
