United Way Connects the Community to Volunteer Opportunities
(July 11, 2013)—United Way in Waukesha County would like to invite volunteers to the following volunteer opportunities:
Help Cook and Serve a Meal at ARCh Camp Pow Wow, Menomonee Falls
ARCh Camp Pow Wow is a lovely site located in Menomonee Park in Menomonee Falls for people with disabilities to experience all the fun of the great outdoors (along with an indoor lodge with a full kitchen).
Campers stay overnight each Thursday evening and we would love to have a small group or individuals come out to join us and help cook, serve and clean up. Weeks are available with all adult campers (over 21) and weeks with youth (under 21). Meals are pre-planned and ready to prepare. Camp runs every week, now through the week of August 12 - 16th. We would like groups to arrive around 3:30 and stay through approximately 7pm. We would appreciate volunteers over age 18.
Tutor, Literacy Council of Greater Waukesha, Waukesha
Energetic volunteers are needed to work one on one with children and adults to improve their reading, math and/or spelling skills. Volunteers meet with students at a local library for 1-2hrs per week; the program lasts a year. To maintain a mentoring relationship with the students, we ask for a 6 months commitment. Schedules are set once a tutor is matched with their student. Requirements: Volunteers must be a minimum of 18 years old and able to attend a 12 hour training. Patience and excellent communication is a must.
Medical Records Receptionist, Community Outreach Health Clinic, Menomonee Falls
The medical records receptionist sets up the registration area with necessary forms and materials. Assists with patient registration, medical records preparation, data collection, and storage. Computer knowledge is required to do minimal computer entry. The Community Outreach Health Clinic is located in the Outpatient Care Center at Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls. Volunteers are needed during clinic hours (5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.) on Tuesdays and Thursdays. There is no set schedule for volunteering - you make out your own schedule. Training is provided for all roles. Requirements: Volunteers must be a minimum age of 18 years old. Some computer knowledge is helpful. Like working with people is a must.
Provide Lifesaving Rides for Cancer Patients!, American Cancer Society, Pewaukee
In an effort to offer women resources in the fight against breast cancer, the American Cancer Society and Kohl's Cares have partnered to provide the Society's Road to Recovery program in Waukesha County. If you have a few hours available Monday-Friday between 7am-5pm during the month, you can volunteer for this lifesaving program! Volunteer drivers donate their time and the use of their vehicle to take patients to treatment related appointments. They also provide encouragement and support. Volunteers must have a good driving record, a valid driver’s license, a serviceable car with seatbelts and adequate insurance coverage. Drivers must respond to all patient ride requests in a timely fashion and follow through on all commitments. The American Cancer Society provides an orientation, support and other assistance to volunteer drivers. For information on how to volunteer please call the American Cancer Society at 1-800-227-2345. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. New volunteers are required to complete American Cancer Society New Volunteer Orientation, Road to Recovery specific training and re-certification training every two years.
