Weissgerber's Gasthaus Building Knocked Down For Strip Mall
The iconic Weissergber's Gasthaus building has been knocked down today to make way for a new strip mall that will have a Panda Express.

WAUKESHA - In June 2016, Weissgerber's Gasthaus announced it would close after 33 years of business in the Waukesha area.
"It is with great sadness that we have to inform everyone that Weissgerber's Gasthaus will be closing its doors for the final time at the end of the night Saturday, June 25, 2016. Thank you all for 33 years of serving our friends," was the message posted on their Facebook page announcing the closure.
On Thursday, backhoes knocked down the remaining parts of the iconic Gasthaus restaurant in order to make way for new development. According to a Journal Sentinel report, the family removed stained-glass windows and other embellishments, before turning it over to a third party.

City officials eventually moved forward with the redevelopment plans for a strip mall that includes a Panda Express after city officials initially had numerous land-use concerns, including adding two drive-thru windows and a multi-tenant building too close together.
According to the Milwaukee Biz Times, Hans Weissgerber Jr., owner of the Gasthaus Restaurant, it has been difficult since his brother and business partner died in 2013.
