Wisconsin Medical Marijuana Bill Passes State Senate
The Wisconsin State Senate has approved a bill that would make it legal to use a marijuana oil for specific medical applications.

MADISON, WI — The Wisconsin State Senate has approved a bill that would make it legal to use a marijuana oil for specific medical applications.
The bill effectively legalizes possession of cannabidiol (CBD) oil with the right documentation obtained from a doctor.
According to the text of the bill, that documentation must be a certification issued by a physician within the previous year, stating why the individual possesses the CBD oil and that the individual may possess CBD oil to treat a medical condition, not just a seizure disorder.

The State Senate adopted the bill on a 31-1 vote Wednesday. Republican Sen. Duey Stroebel opposed the bill.
“This bill is the culmination of three long years work,” said the bill’s author, Senator Van Wanggaard (R-Racine). “I’m ecstatic that we’ve been able to give hope to parents and patients all around the state.”

Senate Bill 10 amends Lydia’s Law (2013 Act 267), which allowed access to CBD Oil under limited circumstances in Wisconsin. Unfortunately, Wanggaard said in a prepared statement, despite the Legislature’s best efforts, Act 267 proved ineffective in providing CBD Oil access. Senate Bill 10 allows for possession of CBD Oil in Wisconsin if a doctor has certified the oil is being used to treat a medical condition.
In addition, the bill requires Wisconsin follow suit if CBD Oil is rescheduled at the federal level. “This bill is not only the compassionate thing to do, it is the right thing to do,” Wanggaard said. “Parents shouldn’t have to risk jail time to treat their children. It is a sense of relief that we can ease the suffering and fear that too many parents experience trying to improve the lives of their children.”
Senate Bill 10, and its companion bill Assembly Bill 49, are anticipated to be heard in the Assembly Committee on Children and Families next Wednesday, February 15.
The bill will go before the Assembly next month.
