Wisconsin Suing Obama Over Transgender School Guidelines

Gov. Walker signs off on joining the lawsuit, 10 other states. Obama transgender directives called "re-writing laws without congress."

WISCONSIN - Gov. Scott Walker signed off on Wisconsin joining 10 other states in filing a lawsuit against the Obama administration over transgender bathrooms.

"President Obama's attempts to re-write the laws of our country without Congress are not going to be tolerated by Wisconsin," Attorney General Brad Schimel said in a statement.

At issue for Wisconsin is the administration's directive to public schools that permits transgender students to use bathrooms and locker rooms that match their gender identity.

According to a report from FOX 6, Gov. Walker granted the Attorney General's request to join the federal lawsuit.

"Attorney General Schimel asked to join this lawsuit and Gov. Walker granted the request as this is yet another example of President Obama’s unlawful use of executive power," said Tom Evenson, Walker's spokesman, in an emailed statement.

Local Attitudes

According to an article published by Shorewood NOW, the Shorewood school district became the first to formalize policies and codes of conduct to accommodate and protect transgender students.

President Obama singled out the Shorewood School District earlier this month when he issued a national directive regarding transgender students and U.S. schools.
