Witness Says Waukesha Gun Threat Involved Dog: Police

Several Waukesha schools were put on lockdown after a gun threat was reported. A witness said a man pointed a gun at her dog.

WAUKESHA, WI — An apparent threat involving a man with a gun prompted the lockdown of several Waukesha schools earlier this week as a precaution as officers worked to address the potential threat in area neighborhoods.

As it turned out, police did not locate a man with a gun, and the lockout was lifted about an hour after the reported threat. As of this weekend, a suspect has not been identified related to this incident.

On Tuesday, Waukesha police responded to the area of Summit Ave. just after 3 p.m. on a report of a man with a gun.

According to police reports, the grandmother of an adult Waukesha woman called police after she was told by her granddaughter that there was a man in the backyard with a gun. The woman in contact with police said the suspect was wearing a red winter hat, a gray T-shirt, light-colored pants, and said the man pointed the gun at her dog.

The woman told police that the dog approached the strange man in an attempt to bite him, and the man retreated to the fence to avoid the dog. The caller told police that the man pulled out what she thought was a 9mm firearm and pointed it at the dog. The woman told police that the man was seen heading behind her garage, but then lost sight of him, reports stated.

As a precaution, neighboring schools were put on lockout for approximately 50 minutes while officers investigated the call. The schools affected were Waukesha North High School, Lowell Elementary School, and Summit View Elementary School police reported.

According to Waukesha police, officers interviewed the caller and thoroughly searched the area but did not find the man. At approximately 4:04 p.m., the lockout was lifted and the affected schools resumed normal activities.

Waukesha Police are continuing to investigate this incident.
