Woman Locks Self In Bathroom With Gun To Save Boyfriend

A Waukesha woman locked herself in the bathroom with her boyfriend's gun after the boyfriend contemplated urgent self-harm Wednesday.

WAUKESHA, WI — A Waukesha woman barricaded herself in the bathroom with her boyfriend's AR-15 firearm as he was suffering from urgent self-harm impulses.

Waukesha police responded to the 800 block of Riverwalk Drive on Wednesday evening just before 10:30 p.m. on a report of a man with self-harm ideations.

According to police, a woman called 911, but then a man was heard yelling in the background before the line went dead. The woman called back, stating that her boyfriend was suicidal.

According to the report, the man was reportedly in hysterics, saying "he wants to leave the world because he is not happy."

Reports indicated the man was in possession of an AR-15, but that the girlfriend locked herself in the bathroom with the firearm - effectively blocking him from access to the firearm.

Police set up a perimeter in the area, and by 10:42 p.m. had made contact with the boyfriend, and had taken him into custody without further incident.

Moments later, the girlfriend extricated herself from the bathroom. The boyfriend had been taken into custody for mental health reasons without further incident.

A crisis team also responded to the scene to tend to both parties.
