Explore Your Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, and the Upper Midwest with Bikeverywhere.com

Bicyclists start planning your spring and summer rides with Bikeverywhere.com. Whether you ride locally or far afield, BE offers the tools and community you need.

Wauwatosa bicyclists have a new bicycling resource created for the explorer in every rider. It is Bikeverywhere.com. Whether commuting, riding to the store, riding scenic trails or going touring, Bikeverywhere provides the tools to help you plan and map your ride. Bikeverywhere.com, is an interactive route planning, map making and printing community website.

It is the creation of Minnesota small businessman, Doug Shidell who is an avid bicyclist. Doug has taken his lifelong passion for bicycling and turned it into a forty year publishing business, originally named Little Transport Press, which specialized in bicycle maps and guide books for the Upper Midwest.

You may have seen his maps in local bike shops. For example, since 2002, Doug has sold over 78,000 Twin Cities’ maps. In addition, Doug has worked with local businesses and organizations through out the region to promote bicycle commuting and recreational riding. Doug’s maps can be found in many bike shops throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Upper Midwest.

Now, Doug has transformed Little Transport Press into Bikeverywhere.com, an interactive website for the Upper Midwest bicycling community.  Bikeverywhere provides riders the ability to create and print their own unique maps with the same high quality data that is found on Doug’s printed materials and much more.

Bikeverywhere merges information from numerous sources into a mapping application that uses Geographical Information Systems (GIS) data to accurately position bike friendly streets and roads, points of interest, water fountains and restrooms, and more.  This data is available to users in layers that overlay the base map. Riders use these layers to research an area and to map a route that reflects their interests.  Once a route is mapped the user can save it locally, print and share it. The map data base is updated weekly.

Bikeverywhere is for every rider regardless of their skill level. Unlike the sites competitive riders use to keep their riding times and such, Bikeverywhere focuses on exploring and encourages riders to share their photos and route information so that others can use it in their planning. Bikeverywhere is a shared resource rather than a personal training diary.
