Man Dies in Officer-Involved Shooting in Wauwatosa Park Overnight

Reports indicate a Wauwatosa Police Officer shot and killed a man while investigating a suspicious car 3 a.m. overnight at Madison Park.

WAUWATOSA -- One man is dead after police say an officer has fatally shot a person at Madison Park in Wauwatosa overnight.

According to a WTMJ report earlier this morning, Wauwatosa Police Chief Barry Weber said the officer responded to a suspicious vehicle parked outside Madison Park at about 3 a.m. Thursday.

He went on to say that there was one man inside the vehicle with a gun. The WTMJ report says the officer encountered a man with a gun who had been inside the vehicle. At some point, the chief said, the officer feared for his safety and fired shots at the car.

According to a FOX 6 report, authorities have set up a perimeter around Madison Park -- and a vehicle can be seen in the parking lot with a shattered rear window. There are about a dozen evidence marks surrounding that vehicle.

The man was transported to Froedtert Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Journal Sentinel reported Thursday that according to state law, an outside agency is required to investigate any fatal shootings involving officers, and Wauwatosa Police Chief Barry Weber told reporters early Thursday that Milwaukee police would be investigating the shooting at Madison Park.
