Man Leads Police On 78-Mile Chase Through Milwaukee: Report
Police say they chased the driver down after 1 hour and 38 minutes in a chase that reached 100 miles per hour.

MILWAUKEE COUNTY, WI — A Milwaukee man faces a felony charge after police say he led police chase that lasted for more than 78 miles at speeds of more than 100 miles per hour.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Milwaukee County, a Milwaukee police officer was on patrol on June 26 in the area of North 31st Street and West Capitol Drive with his partner in a marked departmental Ford Explorer when they were called to respond to a shots fired complaint in the area.
The criminal complaint stated that the person who called police heard 10 to 20 gunshots. When officers responded they saw a man, later identified as Alvernest Floyd Kennedy drive recklessly on North 15th Street at a high rate of speed. Police say Kennedy disregarded the stop sign at W. Concordia Avenue.

Officers reported attempting to conduct a traffic stop on the 3100 block of North 13th Street, however police said Kennedy increased his speed and ran through several more stop signs.
According to the criminal complaint, Kennedy fled police at greater than 100 miles per hour, and noted that Kennedy did not stop for 78.8 miles. Police reported that they followed him for 1 hour and 38 minutes. Police said Kennedy eventually stopped at 15th and Congress and fled on foot, at which point he was caught by police and arrested.

According to court documents, Kennedy faces one count of fleeing and eluding an officer, and is being held in the Milwaukee County Jail on a $10,000 cash bond.
