City Of Cheyenne Awarded Grant To Update Dry Creek Drainage Plan

CHEYENNE – The City of Cheyenne has been awarded a matching grant from the Wyoming Office of Homeland Security for the purposes of updating the City’s Dry Creek Drainage Plan.

The City’s successful application through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program will update and improve upon the 1988 Dry Creek Drainage Plan. Through coordination with Laramie County, F.E. Warren Air Force Base, and the Board of Public Utilities (BOPU), a diverse committee will work to have the plan reflect the risk to life and property resulting from new developments which effect drainage.

Although the 1988 Dry Creek Drainage Plan was an adequate and useful plan for many years, the land and its uses have notably changed since that time, 30 years ago. There have been many developments in the Dry Creek drainage area over 30 years, both residential and commercial. The 1988 plan is a good starting point, as it identifies problems where there could be risk to both life and property. An updated plan will allow City staff to engage in projects with better, more accurate information resulting in data-driven decisions for future projects and proper drainage.
