Winner Emerges In Baltimore County Executive Democratic Primary

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Election officials have given the unofficial tally of votes from the recount in Baltimore County. The results affirmed that the winner of the Democratic primary in the Baltimore County executive race was former state Delegate John Olszewski Jr.

The initial tally from the June 26 primary had Olszewski winning, with Senator Jim Brochin nine votes behind.

The recount put Brochin 17 votes behind Olszewski.

Following the petition for a recount, election officials converged in Hunt Valley on Thursday, July 12, to tally up the votes.

On Saturday, July 14, the Baltimore County Board of Elections reported the unofficial results from the Democratic contest in the Baltimore County executive primary:

• John "Johnny O" Olszewski: 27,820
• Jim Brochin: 27, 803
• Vicki Almond: 26,842
• Kevin Francis Marron: 2,136

The initial tally, before the recount, had been 27,804 votes for Olszewski, 27,795 votes for Brochin, 26,835 for Almond and 2,135 for Marron.

According to WBAL, the recount turned up 93 votes that had been weeded out by machines for unclear marks and after review, ballots were determined by the board to have been votes clearly for a particular candidate.

The Baltimore County Board of Elections said the results from the recount would be certified next week.

Next, Olszewski wll face Republican Al Redmer Jr., the state insurance commissioner, in the November race for Baltimore County executive.

The general election will be Tuesday, Nov. 6.
