Lawrence, DeNiro Movie Filming at the Historic Hawthorne Hotel in Salem

Hollywood movie stars Jennifer Lawrence and Robert DeNiro, castmates and crew filmed scenes for “Joy” this week at the historic Hawthorne Hotel in to Salem, Mass., according to the film’s publicist.

The film, from Fox 2000 Pictures and Davis Entertainment, in association with Annapurna Pictures, is produced by David O. Russell, John Davis, and Megan Ellison. The movie’s title is “Joy,” according to Cid Swank, unit publicist. It previously had a working title of “Kay’s Baptism.” This is the third fim Russell has filmed in Massachusetts.

Congressman Seth Moulton, (D-Massachusetts) even got in on the fun; he tweeted: “Movie filming in @Salem_ma today: Jennifer Lawrence supposedly getting married in the @HawthorneHotel like my sister!”

The movie is described as a “rags-to-riches tale about Miracle Mop inventor Joy Mangano, a Long Island single mother of three children, who became a millionaire practically overnight after launching the product on QVC in 1991. Mangano (being portrayed by Lawrence) is a fixture on the Home Shopping Network with her many inventions, though the mop was her ticket to fame and fortune. She began her inventing as a teen and kept on dreaming and tinkering while still a single mom raising three kids.”

The stars may have enjoyed beverages from local Jaho Coffee.The specialty coffee company shared the news, but would not divulge what the stars ordered in a tweet, “Bradley Cooper, DeNiro and Jennifer Lawrence shooting in Salem today. Their favorite coffee drinks are…sorry we signed an NDA (non-disclosure agreement):/.”

The Hawthorne Hotel must have signed a non-disclosure agreement as well. They were not divulging any details, either, but @HawthorneHotel gained new followers on Twitter, “We’re certainly gaining a lot of new followers today. Hmm. Hi!”

Located in the heart of historic Salem, Hawthorne Hotel has a rich history which began in 1925 and has welcomed numerous leisure travelers as well as dignitaries and celebrities, according to the hotel. Over the years, the Hawthorne Hotel has hosted well-known personalities including newsman Walter Cronkite, actress Bette Davis, General Colin Powell, and both President George Bush and First Lady Barbara Bush. Episodes of iconic shows including Bewitched , What Not to Wear and Ghost Hunters have all been filmed on this historic property. In 1984, Vanessa Redgrave called the hotel home for a month while making Three Sovereigns for Sarah , a public television movie about the Salem witch trials.

The movie has an expected release date of Dec. 25, 2015.
