22 Coronavirus Deaths Reported In Jefferson County
In Jefferson County, 22 coronavirus patients have died, according to the Alabama Department of Public Health.
BIRMINGHAM, AL — The Alabama Department of Public Health lists 22 reported deaths in Jefferson County, up from 17 reported deaths Wednesday. The county also reported 634 cases of the virus, up from 625 Wednesday.
"Reported deaths" and "died from illness" numbers from the Alabama Department of Public Health represent the number of individuals who have a positive lab result and are now deceased. To count a person who died from COVID-19 disease, the medical record of the deceased person has to be reviewed by a physician and Infectious Disease and Outbreak staff.
In Jefferson County, 14 of the 22 reported fatalities have been confirmed as having died directly from the illness. UAB Hospital reported 43 coronavirus patients Thursday.

In Alabama, more than 4,300 cases have been confirmed by the state, with 133 reported deaths (82 listed as "died from illness").
In addition to Jefferson County, Mobile County makes up a hefty portion of the total statewide cases. Mobile County has 532 cases as of Thursday afternoon, and has matched Jefferson County's 22 reported deaths.
The five counties with the most cases in Alabama:
Jefferson County: 634 confirmed cases; 6,647 total tests; 22 reported deaths
Mobile County: 577 confirmed cases; 3,007 total tests; 22 reported deaths
Lee County: 292 confirmed cases; 1,740 total tests; 12 reported deaths
Shelby County: 243 confirmed cases; 1,701 total tests; 7 reported deaths
Chambers County: 231 confirmed cases; 657 total tests; 11 reported deaths
The Internal Revenue Service started sending out stimulus payments this week, but while 80 million people can expect the money to hit their bank accounts this week, others will be waiting longer before the cash is in their hands. The IRS launched a website this week for people to track their stimulus payments.
