Alabama Tops 12,000 COVID-19 Cases, Fatalities Remain Below 500
Deaths from COVID-19 have increased at a slower rate than total cases in Alabama, as the state tops 12,000 total cases of the virus.
MONTGOMERY, AL — As Alabama passes 12,000 total confirmed cases of COVID-19, the state's fatalities from the virus have not increased at the same rate. The Alabama Department of Public Health reported one fatality over the last 24 hours, despite more than 300 new cases.
Total, the ADPH has confirmed 12,086 COVID-19 cases, with 488 deaths. The state has confirmed 12 deaths from COVID-19 in the last four days, although the last week has seen large numbers of new cases.
In the last two weeks, Alabama has confirmed 4,032 new COVID-19 cases.

Jefferson County, which reported 52 new cases of the virus Sunday, shows 23 new cases as of Monday afternoon, and no fatalities.

Tuscaloosa County saw a spike in cases over the weekend, adding 23 new cases to its total Monday, Tuscaloosa County had been one of the counties in the state that had stayed relatively under the radar in regard to COVID-19 cases.
Montgomery County added 20 new cases of the virus, and continues to be a hotbed for the virus, increasing cases and fatalities at a faster rate than any other county the last two weeks.
The counties in Alabama with the most cases as of Monday afternoon:
- Mobile County: 1,735 confirmed cases; 101 deaths
- Jefferson County: 1,355 confirmed cases; 74 deaths
- Montgomery County: 863 confirmed cases; 20 deaths
- Marshall County: 632 confirmed cases; 9 deaths
- Lee County: 452 confirmed cases; 31 deaths
- Shelby County: 404 confirmed cases; 19 deaths
- Tuscaloosa County: 368 confirmed cases; 8 deaths
- Tallapoosa County: 366 confirmed cases; 57 deaths
- Franklin County: 344 confirmed cases; 4 deaths
- Chambers County: 329 confirmed cases; 22 deaths
