Alabama Tops 20,000 COVID-19 Cases

Sunday.s report from the Alabama Department of Public Health shows more than 20,000 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the state.

MONTGOMERY, AL — The Alabama Department of Public Health has now confirmed more than 20,000 vases of COVID-19 in the state since testing began in March. The virus has also claimed 688 lives in Alabama.

In the last 14 days, 5,682 new cases have been reported by the ADPH. After a couple of days with fewer than 300 new cases reported in the state, the ADPH reported more than 1,000 new cases over the weekend.

This spike, and the lower numbers leading up to the spike, are partially due to a lag in data reporting, according to the ADPH. As a result of a reporting backlog, new data appears to display sizable increases in all numbers, the ADPH said.
