Alabama Tops 30 New Coronavirus Deaths For Third Straight Day

Alabama topped 30 COVID-19 deaths for the third day in a row Friday, and added 1,669 new cases to its total.

MONTGOMERY, AL — The Alabama Department of Public Health confirmed 38 COVID-19 deaths Friday, the third straight day the ADPH has reported more than 30 deaths in a day from the virus. The state has confirmed nearly 1,400 COVID-19 deaths since the pandemic began.

Total, Alabama has confirmed 74,365 cases of COVID-19, with 23,334 of those cases coming in the last 14 days. The state reports that 32,510 patients are presumed to have recovered from the virus.

Positive coronavirus tests are most prevalent in patients age 25-49, as that age group makes up more than 41 percent of all cases. However, that age group only makes up 4.9 percent of all COVID-19 deaths. A whopping 65 percent of deaths from the virus have been people age 65 or older.

Jefferson County is closing in on 10,000 total COVID-19 cases. After adding 257 new cases to its total, the county continues to lead the state in total cases with 9,809, and leads in deaths from the virus with 197.

  • Jefferson County: 197 deaths
  • Mobile County: 170 deaths
  • Montgomery County: 134 deaths
  • Tallapoosa County: 78 deaths
  • Tuscaloosa County: 57 deaths
