Birmingham-Southern College President To Step Down
Birmingham-Southern College President Linda Flaherty-Goldsmith announced she is leaving the college due to family health issues.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Birmingham-Southern president Linda Flaherty-Goldsmith announced this week she will be leaving her post at the college at the end of the academic year. She cited family health issues as her reason for leaving after more than two years at the helm of the school.
A report by Alabama Media Group said Flaherty-Goldsmith's 8-month-old grandson who lives in Peru has been in intensive care after being diagnosed with a serious heart condition.

During her time as president, the college has added new majors, signed more articulation agreements, created new partnerships and re-examined the school's curriculum. The college had a record number of transfer students this year.
"My tenure here was designed to be short and to put BSC on a course that would lead to growth in new directions well after my time there," she said in a statement. "We've done so much in the past two years. And there is so much excitement about everything happening that I considered staying longer than initially planned."

A search committee for a new president is being formed by the Board of Trustees.
