BIRMINGHAM, AL — A former University of Alabama student pleaded guilty to aiding the terrotist group Al Qaeda in a Birmingham court this week. This was one of several news stories that made headlines during thepast week.

Also making news was a rash of crimes in Blount County that included the death of a toddler and an attempted murder. Blount County is ordinarily one of the least violent counties in the Birmingham metro area.
