JeffCo Superintendent Craig Pouncey Leaving For College Job
Jefferson County School Superintendent Craig Pouncey will become the new president of Coastal Alabama Community College.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL — After five years at the helm of the Jefferson County school system, Dr. Craig Pouncey announced Wednesday he is leaving the superintendent position and taking a job as president of Coastal Alabama Community College.
Pouncey, who has been the Jefferson County superintendent since 2014, will begin his new role on October 1.
"I’m confident that the appointment of Dr. Pouncey as president of Coastal Alabama will be an important milestone in the history of Coastal Alabama Community College," said Alabama Community College System Chancellor Jimmy H. Baker in a release. "Craig’s nearly four decades of wide-ranging experience in both the classroom and in administration will be an incredible asset to the students, faculty, staff, and administration at the college. Whether you’re an Eagle, Sun Chief, or Warhawk, I’m confident the Coastal Alabama family will see a bright future ahead with President Pouncey at the helm."

"Dr. Pouncey has left us better off administratively than we ever have been," said Jefferson County School Board Vice President Ronnie Dixon. "And I know there are deputy superintendents and other administrators that are certainly qualified for the job. Whether or not they apply, I don’t know," Dixon added.
Pouncey has served as Superintendent of Jefferson County Schools since 2014 and was named Superintendent of the Year by the School Superintendents of Alabama. Pouncey previously spent nearly 10 years working with the state department of education.
