Cinco De Mayo: Where To Celebrate In Birmingham
Birmingham has plenty of spots to celebrate Cinco de Mayo this weekend.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Cinco de Mayo, the celebration of the Mexican Army's defeat of France in 1862, is this weekend, and what has become an American celebration of Mexican culture can be observed at several Birmingham locations.
Although many people erroneously believe May 5 to be Mexico's independence day, it has become a much bigger holiday in the U.S. than it is in Mexico. Within Mexico, Cinco de Mayo is primarily observed in the state of Puebla, where Zaragoza’s unlikely victory occurred, although other parts of the country also take part in the celebration. Traditions include military parades, recreations of the Battle of Puebla and other festive events. However, In the U.S., it is usually celebrated by eating Mexican food, drinking margaritas and honoring Mexican culture.

La Paz, 99 Euclid Ave, Mountain Brook: From 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., La Paz will host live music and kids activities in addition to food and drink specials. As well, personalities from Birmingham Mountain Radio will be on hand broadcasting live from the event.
Pizitz Food Hall, 1821 2nd Ave N., Birmingham: Enjoy tacos, margaritas and more at the Pizitz courtyard during their Cinco de Mayo party with The Louis Bar. 11 a.m. - 8 p.m.

Cantina Tortilla Grill, 2901 2nd Ave S., Birmingham: Celbrating not only Cinco de Mayo, but also the 15th anniversary of Cantina at Pepper Place, enjoy food/drink specials, live music and a DJ from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m.
Bartaco, 1017 Oxmoor Road, Homewood: The restaurant invites the community to join them as they celebrate Cinco de Mayo with live music from local bands and special activities for the kids throughout the day.
Chuys, 216 Summit Blvd. Ste. 135, Birmingham: Drink specials and burritos all day, with a great view from the Chuy's patio.
Nana Funks, 708 29th St. S., Birmingham: Never-ending drinks and all-night fun is what Nana Funks is known for. Starting at 4 p.m.
