Birmingham Police, Federal Agencies Discuss Joint Approach to Crime Reduction (abc3340.com) — Birmingham police leaders and multiple federal agencies are tightening their partnership to support Chief Michael Pickett's 8-Point Crime Reduction Plan and pursue tougher action on serious offenses. Officials detailed how cases will be screened for federal charges and stronger sentencing, with agencies from the FBI to the U.S. Marshals Service committing resources to Birmingham's public safety efforts.
   

2. Federal Reserve orders oversight measures on Birmingham's SouthPoint Bancshares (al.com subscription) — A Birmingham-based bank holding company, SouthPoint Bancshares, has been ordered by federal and state regulators to submit a detailed capital and cash-flow plan within 60 days, limiting new debt and dividends. The parent of SouthPoint Bank, which has $1.7 billion in assets and financed major local restaurant ventures, must now file ongoing progress reports that could shape its operations across Birmingham and Alabama.
   

3. Federal judge dismisses lawsuit challenging Birmingham Water Works restructuring (abc3340.com) — A federal judge in Birmingham has dismissed with prejudice one lawsuit challenging the state-driven restructuring of Birmingham Water Works into Central Alabama Water, ending the case brought by two former board members. Plaintiffs say they'll keep fighting in remaining litigation, while Central Alabama Water and the City of Birmingham await a separate ruling that could still affect how the water system is governed.
   

4. 14 arrested in operation against child exploitation (wbrc.com) — Law enforcement agencies based in and around Birmingham arrested 14 suspects in Operation Safe Harbor, a recent sting targeting child exploitation across central Alabama. Jefferson County deputies, Birmingham-area police departments, and federal partners seized weapons and vehicles while stressing their commitment to protecting local children and urging residents to report any human trafficking tips.
   

5. Former Yea Alabama content director back in jail after judge revokes bond (wbrc.com) — In a case originating from the Birmingham area, a judge has revoked bond for former Yea Alabama content director and longtime sportswriter Robert Aaron Suttles, returning him to the Shelby County Jail. Prosecutors moved to revoke bond after a subsequent DUI arrest in Homewood, while his attorneys now seek to have his original bond conditions reinstated.
