City And County Considering Financial Incentives For Shipt
Birmingham's golden start-up, Shipt, may get more than $2 million in incentives from Birmingham and Jefferson County to stay in Birmingham.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Birmingham and Jefferson County are each looking at ways to keep one of the city's most successful start-ups in the Magic City - including offering financial incentives to the company.
According to a report by the Birmingham Business Journal, the city and county will soon consider incentive packages totaling nearly $2.5 million for Shipt, the grocery delivery service that has taken off since opening in Birmingham in 2014. Shipt was acquired by Target last year for $550 million.

According to public notices, the Birmingham City Council on July 10 will consider $1.762 million in incentives through the city's new Talent Investment Program, Talent Acceleration Program and Talent Optimization Program.
Jefferson County on July 12 will consider $720,000 in incentives also aimed at keeping and growing the headquarters of Shipt which is currently headquartered in the John Hand Building.
