Coronavirus: Confirmed Cases Pass 400 Mark In Jefferson County
The number of confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in the state has also surpassed 1,700, according to the latest Alabama health reports.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — The number of confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in Jefferson County has reached 404 on Sunday, according to the Alabama Public Health coronavirus surveillance dashboard. The new figure on Sunday means that 32 more people were diagnosed with the virus since Saturday's update of 372 reported cases in the county.
A total of nine people have died in Jefferson County from complications related to the virus.
The passing of the 400 mark comes two days after Gov. Kay Ivey ended her holdout and issued a stay-at-home order for the state on Friday afternoon. The order went into effect at 5 p.m. Saturday and will last through April 30.

Under the ordinance, residents are asked to remain at home and only leave for essential purposes. Those purposes include:

- Work
- Visiting essential businesses like grocery stores, financial institutions and gas stations
- Retrieving curbside pickup from restaurants
- Attending doctor's appointments
- Exercising outside — including biking, hiking and running – as long as they stay at least 6 feet away from others
Statewide, the number of coronavirus cases passed 1,700 on Sunday, meaning that close to a quarter of all Alabama confirmed cases have come from Jefferson County. The state also reported two additional deaths Sunday for a total of 45.
