Coronavirus In Jefferson County: More Than 550 New Cases Per Day
Over the last week, Jefferson County has added an average of 563 new COVID-19 cases each day as cases continue to spread in December.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — December has been the worst month for the spread of COVID-19 in Alabama, with daily averages throughout the state reaching all-time highs. In Jefferson County, new cases have seen record numbers as well, as the state's largest county has averaged more than 550 new cases per day over the last week.
Monday, the Alabama Department of Public Health confirmed 336 new cases in Jefferson County, which beings the county's 7-day average to 563 new cases per day.

- Dec. 22: 790 new cases
- Dec. 23: 960 new cases
- Dec. 24: 763 new cases
- Dec. 25: 608 new cases
- Dec. 26: 153 new cases
- Dec. 27: 367 new cases
- Dec. 28: 336 new cases
Jefferson County has reported 160 deaths in December. By comparison, the county reported 29 deaths in October, and 38 in September.
ADPH data shows 2,585 people are currently hospitalized in Alabama with COVID-19, the highest figure to date. Jefferson County hospitals are over 80 percent capacity as of Monday.
