BIRMINGHAM, AL - The Auburn University family received shocking news last weekend when an announcement was made that the Voice of the Auburn Tigers, Rod Bramblett was killed - along with his wife, Paula - in a car accident. This started off a week that included news from the University of Alabama as well.

The University of Alabama Board of Trustees will vote at its next meeting on returning the school's largest donation - more than $20 million from Hugh Culverhouse, Jr. - due to Culverhouse's criticism of the Alabama Legislature's abortion bill.

Longtime broadcaster for Auburn sports Rod Bramblett and his wife, Paula, died in a car accident in Auburn last Saturday night. The accident occurred on Shug Jordan Parkway at the intersection of West Samford Avenue.

Alabama Contestant Among National Spelling Bee Champions

In an unprecedented finish, eight contestants tied for first in the 2019 Scripps National Spelling Bee Thursday. One of those winners was 14-year-old Erin Howard of Huntsville.

UA Board Of Trustees May Return $21 Million Culverhouse Donation

Hugh Culverhouse, Jr. openly criticized the Alabama State Legislature for its abortion ban bill passed this month, and called for a boycott of the University of Alabama because of it. The UA Board of Trustees responded by offering to return a $21.5 million donation Culverhouse gave to the school last year.

Shelby County Community Corrections Employee Arrested

An employee with the Shelby County Community Corrections office has been arrested. Brandy Lee Gentry, 32, was arrested and charged with sexual misconduct after she turned herself in to authorities May 25.

Deputies Involved In Shooting While Attempting To Serve Warrant

Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies attempting to issue a warrant in Bessemer became involved in a shooting Wednesday. Shots broke out after deputies confronted 32-year-old Edder Hernandez.
