In addition to the presidential election, Alabama voters will also vote on the U.S. Senate, all seven U.S. House of Representatives seats, Public Service Commission president and a bevy of local offices throughout the state.

Polls opened at 7 a.m. and will stay open until 7 p.m.

Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill said absentee voting requests have passed 300,000 before Thursday's application deadline. More than 240,000 absentee ballots have been returned.

Many Alabama voters who applied for an absentee ballot for Tuesday's election have reported that they have not received their ballots in the mail yet. Merrill's office said those voters may vote in person at their designated polling location if they are able.

Grace Newcombe of the Alabama Secretary of State's Office said Monday that voters who have not mailed in a ballot within the time frame specified, but are able to get to their polling locations can still cast a vote.

"Voters who requested an absentee ballot but did not return it may vote a provisional ballot at the polls tomorrow," Newcombe said to Patch Monday.

Absentee ballots received by the day of the election Nov. 3 will be opened for tabulation beginning at 7 a.m. that day, according to an order announced by Gov. Kay Ivey in September.

"I commend Governor Ivey for making the wise decision to allow for the processing of absentee ballots to begin at 7 a.m. on Election Day," Merrill said. "This accommodates the anticipated increase of absentee ballots and ensures that Alabama will continue to provide timely, unofficial election results on election night."

Long lines have been the main complaint among voters in Alabama, with some voters in larger precincts saying they stood in line for more than two hours. Other voters have said the lines were longer than previous elections but the wait was not more than 20 minutes.
