Fatal Shooting In Ensley Under Investigation

BIRMINGHAM, AL — The second Birmingham homicide in less than 12 hours claimed the life of a 21-year-old victim early Tuesday morning. The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. in the 2300 block of Court R in Ensley.

Sgt. Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department said officers responded to a report of gunfire at the Villas at Westridge apartment complex and found Joe Albert Foster IV unresponsive on the floor of an apartment. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

This homicide was reported just a few hours after a deadly shooting in east Birmingham, which claimed the life of 31-year-old Dexter Dewayne Speight.

Foster's death is the 57th homicide this year in Birmingham. Of those, eight have been ruled justifiable and one accidental and therefore are not deemed criminal.
