Deadly Shooting Off Springville Road Under Investigation

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A shooting in east Birmingham Monday night claimed the life of a 31-year-old man. The incident occurred off Springville Road just after 9 p.m.

Sgt. Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department said officers arrived at the Twin Gates apartment complex to discover the victim, Dexter Speights, lying on his back suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to UAB Hospital by Birmingham Fire and Rescue were he was pronounced dead.

During the preliminary investigation, police received reports of an argument prior to shots being fired. The unknown suspect fled the scene after the shooting. There are no suspects in custody.
