BIRMINGHAM, AL — Some good news came this past to the residents of McCalla this past week, as UAB announced that the rebuild of its Medical West hospital would be at a site in the McCalla city limits. The hospital is moving from Bessemer.

Also in the news during the last week was word that the Hepatitis A outbreak in Alabama has now reached Jefferson County. Three cases in the county were reported. The virus has already affected 20 other counties in the state.

Homewood Jail Employee Charged With Stealing Money From Inmate

The Homewood Police Department has arrested a jail employee for allegedly stealing money from an inmate. Tiffany Purifoy, a 31-year-old Tarrant woman, is charged with theft of property.

A replacement hospital for UAB's Medical West has been approved for a site in McCalla. The 200-bed hospital will be located on Bell Hill Road.
