Here are some of the stories that made headlines during the week of Dec. 16-21

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Birmingham residents received some good news when the Alabama Department of Transportation announced this week that the rebuilding project on I-59/20 could possibly be completed by the end of January.
This would end a project that has been the source of frustration for motorists in the Birmingham area for a year now, and would bring some much-needed relief to traffic issues in the downtown area.

Contractor Chosen For Protective Stadium Construction
The construction of Birmingham's downtown football stadium and event venue will be in the hands of a local contractor, as the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center Authority voted Feiday to award the contract to Brasfield & Gorrie.

I-59/20 Construction: ALDOT Eyes January Completion
What has been one of the most extensive and — unfortunately disruptive — traffic projects in Birmingham in decades may finally be completed in the next several weeks. During a monthly media briefing Thursday morning, Alabama Department of Transportation officials said a January completion for the project is possible.
Alabama Homicide Suspects Arrested After Multi-State Crime Spree
A pair of suspects in the Dec. 13 shooting death of Kellie Ann Hughes have been captured in Missouri. Brady Witcher and Brittany McMillan have been charged in a Tennessee home invasion, kidnapping and other crimes in addition to Hughes' murder, according to Clarksville, Tennessee, police.
