Jefferson County 2020 Updated Election Results

In addition to the presidential race, Senate and congressional races in Alabama, several local races were on the ballot in Jefferson County.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Although the presidential race and congressional races in Alabama are likely getting more attention statewide Tuesday, several offices are on the ballot in Jefferson County.

Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill said voter turnout in Alabama looks to be close to 70 percent, higher than the 63 percent the state reported in the 2016 election, and much more than the 30 percent in the primaries this year.

Merrill also said absentee voting requests had passed 300,000 before Thursday's application deadline. More than 240,000 absentee ballots have been returned

Results as of 7 a.m.:

District Judge, Place 7:

  • Ruby Yvette Davis (D): 174,630 votes
  • Bentley Patrick (R): 142,227 votes

Jefferson County Tax Assessor:

  • Gaynell Hendricks (D): 176,593 votes
  • Jonathan Barbee (R): 140,274 votes

Constable, District 45:

  • Andrea Carter (D): 5,323 votes
  • Tim Anders (R): 6,403 votes

Amendment One

  • Yes: 1,013,306
  • No: 312,910

Amendment Two

  • Yes: 714,717
  • No: 714,446

Amendment Three

  • Yes: 789,608
  • No: 439,396

Amendment Four

  • Yes: 796,968
  • No: 430,359

Many Alabama voters who applied for an absentee ballot for Tuesday's election have reported that they have not received their ballots in the mail yet. Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill's office said those voters may vote in person at their designated polling location if they are able.


District Judge, Place 7

Bentley Patrick has served in this office since April of 2019, having been appointed by Gov. Kay Ivey. Patrick also served on the Alabama 10th Judicial Circuit Court. He ran fr this office in 2016 but lost.

Davis is a Birmingham attorney who is running for office for the first time.


Jefferson County Tax Assessor

Gaynell Hendricks has held this office since 2008. Jonathan Barbee is also running for for re-election to the Jefferson County Constables to represent District 48.


Amendment One

Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, to provide that only a citizen of the United States has the right to vote.


Amendment Two

Proposing an amendment to increase the membership of the Judicial Inquiry Commission and further provide for the appointment of the additional members.



Amendment Three

Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, to provide that a judge, other than a judge of probate, appointed to fill a vacancy would serve an initial term until the first Monday after the second Tuesday in January following the next general election after the judge has completed two years in office.


Amendment Four

An amendment to authorize the Legislature to recompile the Alabama Constitution and submit it during the 2022 Regular Session, and provide a process for its ratification by the voters of this state.
