Jefferson County Area Adds 214 New Coronavirus Cases

Jefferson and surrounding counties combined for 214 new coronavirus cases Thursday, close to the area's average for the month.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL — The Jefferson County Department of Health reported that Jefferson, Bibb, Blount, Cullman, Shelby, St. Clair, Tuscaloosa and Walker counties combined for 214 new coronavirus cases Thursday.

That 24-hour total is slightly above the average for October for the area, as the new daily case totals have been trending downward since July.

Since the pandemic began in March, the area saw a steady climb in daily averages leading up to July before the averages began decreasing.

The average daily total for the area each month:

  • March: 23 new cases per day
  • April: 36 new cases per day
  • May: 66 new cases per day
  • June: 171 new cases per day
  • July: 431 new cases per day
  • August: 282 new cases per day
  • September: 233 new cases per day
  • October (so far): 184 new cases per day

In the last two weeks, the state is averaging more than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases per day, as the state has reported 14,277 cases over that span. The ADPH has reported 2,618 deaths from COVID-19 since March.
