After months of speculation, a deal has been reached that will bring an Amazon fulfillment center to Bessemer. The official announcement by Amazon was made Friday morning. The Birmingham Business Alliance says the new Amazon facility will bring an economic impact of $700 million to Bessemer.

Despite a resolution by her fellow board members requesting her resignation, Jefferson County Board of Education member Donna Pike says she will not resign amidst criticism over some social media posts she made that have been construed as being racist.
Birmingham had been asked back in April by the Democratic National Committee to throw the city's name in the hat to host the 2020 Democratic National Convention, but the city has decided not to. The city submitted an unsuccessful bid to host the convention in 2016, a bid that was criticized by many people for being fiscally irresponsible, considering the $275,000 cost of the bid and Birmingham's lack of infrastructure at the time to support the convention.
Birmingham Native And PGA Golf Legend Hubert Green Dies At 71
Birmingham native and PGA Tour legend Hubert Green passed away Tuesday after a long battle with throat cancer. Green was born in Birmingham, honed his golfing skills at Birmingham County Club and graduated from Shades Valley High School. He went on to star at Florida State University, turned professional in 1970 and qualified for the PGA Tour the following year, when he was named Rookie of the Year.
Three Killings In Three Hours Friday Night In Birmingham
Three people died from gunshot wounds in three different locations in a span of only three hours Friday night in Birmingham. The killings were unrelated, but also added to a week's total of six shooting deaths in Birmingham.
