Lear Corporation Tightens Security At Tuscaloosa County Plant

After a deadly shooting inside its Tuscaloosa County plant, the Lear Corporation has taken extra security measures.

TUSCALOOSA COUNTY, AL — Lear Corporation has taken addition measures to tighten security at its Tuscaloosa County plant after an employee shot and killed a co-worker last week inside the plant.

Angela Nichole Mayo, 28, turned herself in for the fatal shooting of Shanina Smith August 4. Mayo reportedly shot Smith after Smith "bumped into her" while on the job, according to a WVTM report.

The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office said they have been providing off-duty deputies through a third-party security company to Lear Corporation. Before the shooting, security was only available on certain shifts. The TCSO said now they have off-duty deputies working security at the plant 24 hours a day.
